Stephanie SohnsStephanie Sohns has a BFA in Theatre and Performance from her studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the University of Colorado at Boulder where she was first introduced to the Alexander Technique, more than 20 years ago. Stephanie became a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique after attending a 3 year, full-time training program, (1,600 hours of rigorous hands-on training, plus human anatomy and required reading/discussion classes) at (MCAT) the Manhattan Center for the Alexander Technique in New York City. Stephanie is also certified in both Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis movement methods. She is currently practicing out of Pathways to Well Being. For lessons; private or group, please call or email:

The Alexander Technique, developed by F.M. Alexander, is an educational method that teaches us how to use our bodies with greater awareness. Through self-observation and gentile hands-on guidance we begin to notice and not do or inhibit negative habitual patterns in the body, (i.e. unnecessary tension, overuse in musculature and/or movement, etc.). The Technique provides a system for observing and improving movement and a means to gain proficiency in basic skills such as walking, sitting, bending, squatting, reaching, carrying and lying down. This system of self observation brings us to an essential understanding of our physical, emotional and energetic selves and their fundamental connection. Most importantly, we learn a unique process of self-management where we can simply and effectively modify our muscular response to stress and/or pain and carry out better us of ourselves at will.

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® are cultivated exercise methods embracing the same key principles also found in yoga, swimming, dance, tai-chi and gymnastics. Experienced through a detailed format of circular and expansive movements that stimulate and strengthen all the systems of the body, open energetic pathways and increase the natural vitality and coordination of the entire human organism. A GYROTONICŪ lesson is done on equipment specifically designed to aid the human body in exercise. GYROKINESES® classes follow a series of seated, laying and standing motions gently moved through to completion.
