We are a group of independent practitioners brought together by our dedication to provide comprehensive, holistic healthcare and education to the community.

Pathways provides one location for various complimentary methods of healing. As practitioners we bring many years of specialized training and experience to our work. This enables us to incorporate a broad spectrum of approaches to your individual well being. We treat each client as we do each other, with mutual respect, caring and harmony.

Our mission at Pathways is to provide one place with many avenues to choose from where individuals of all ages can rediscover their own best sense of wellness.

Our History

In December 1976, Don Wright, Bea Bookchin and Julie McLane started the Massage Center on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont. With Julie's vision for working holistically with people, she founded Pathways to Well Being in 1978. It became incorporated as a non-profit organization whose mission was to offer holistic health services and education to the community. Independent private practitioners were invited to rent economical office space and to practice and/or teach holistic, complimentary and alternative methods of health care, emphasizing that there are many pathways to good health.

Over the years, Pathways has supported many practitioners who later went on to start other alternative practices. Of national reputation is Dr. Peter Albright who edited the book, Body, Mind and Spirit, and who later started St. Johnsbury's New Directions In Heath. Dr. Albright went on to become President of the Holistic Medical Association. Other former Pathways staff who have started alternative health care centers in Vermont include Julie McLane and Sara Aschenbach: Awakenings in Shelburne; Susan Borg: Center For Body Music and Resonant Kinesiology in Burlington; Jeff Galper: Rolfing Associates in south Burlington; Thomas Walker: Rolfing Center; Naturopathic doctor Bill Warnock and Sandy Ryder, M.D.: The Lake Champlain Center for Holistic Medicine in Shelburne; Jack Dobeck; Body Improvisions, in Bristol; and Stewart Cohen, Full Spectrum Health Care, in Burlington, Vermont.
